But this vast area is also very anonymous and makes it easy for dishonest people to portray themselves and their “businesses” in a deceptive manner.

Don’t get me wrong, their are plenty of honest and legitimate home based businesses, and a large reason why people decide something is a “scam” is mostly due to their own lack of skills, experience, and knowledge of how to market on the internet. And most people don’t fully commit, or were never serious in the first place so they give up before they even really get started.

So I’d say the first thing you should evaluate, is just how serious you are.
Nothing happens overnight and without hard work, even with high-speed internet connections.

If you want to make money with a legitimate home based business you will need to know how to spot the scams that are out there.

I’d say one of the most prevalent scams are paid surveys. But the scam probably isn’t what you think it is. When I started out making money online, I made thousands of dollars from paid surveys.

The “scam” is when people try and sell you the information to gain access to paid survey sites. These sites are always completely free, but people have put together packages and systems to sell information about paid surveys to newbies. Ten minutes worth of “google” searches will yield you dozens of the actual free survey sites. And as I said before, you CAN make money taking surveys from these companies.

The next scam you need to be able to spot if you want to hang onto your money are the “join us for x amount of dollars and we guarantee you will be making five or ten thousand dollars a week/month almost immediately.”

While there are true “overnight” success stories, this probably accounts for less than 0.10 percent of people making money with legitimate home based businesses. Success comes from hard work.

You should also be aware that screen shots of earnings from online accounts and testimonials can be EASILY be faked.

The last thing you should be wary of, is a product or e-book online that doesn’t offer some sort of money-back guarantee.

If something looks to good to be true it probably is and if a company isn’t worried about how satisfied you are as a customer, red flags should come up.

Of course, there are always exceptions to these rules, but hopefully with this information will you be better equipped to spot scams and only spend your money on legitimate home-based businesses.
