I’ve been on Depo for almost a year now, and my husband and I love the convenience of the shot, but I HATE the weight gain that I experienced. I am an ex-gymnast (only ex because of a knee injury that I couldn’t come back from) and I’ve always been athletic and toned. Since Depo makes your body think it’s pregnant, the doctor warned me that I could gain somewhere between 10 and 45 pounds, and I’ve gained 25 that won’t come off. I’ve been working out with a personal trainer, and should have lost a LOT more weight than what I have. I haven’t cheated on my diet plan or anything, so that’s not the reason. My doctor had recommended switching birth control if I really wanted to lose the weight effectively. I already know that I’m not good at taking pills, and the patch irritated my skin. I have considered an IUD, but then I ran upon Implanon in my birth control research. My question is how much (if any) weight gain is associated with Implanon? I saw that it is a side effect, but compared to the side effect list of Depo, it is farther down the list. Is the weight gain a huge issue with anyone? There wasn’t a specific number associated with the side effect like Depo has, so I wondered how many of the users experienced this side effect and how radical it was.
I also read about the bleeding that happens after Implanon is started. This is similar to Depo, so I can handle that. The whole reason I started Depo was to reduce or stop my periods. Whenever I have a period that is un-altered by birth control, it is VERY painful (mostly because of the cramps) and often stops me from doing anything but laying in bed until the 3rd or 4th day of the period. I have had medical evaluations to see if there is an abnormal reason for this, but every doctor and OB/GYN has said nothing is wrong, and that this will probably change when/after I have a child. I wanted to know if there were normal periods after the initial bleeding period or if they stop, and if anyone in a similar situation has had any success/failure using Implanon. Thank you SO much!!!
