I’m Having a Lot of Trouble with Inserting a Tampon. Some Help Please?
I have tried to insert a tampon many times. I’m on the second day of my cycle, so I don’t think I’m ‘dry.’ I have almost used a whole box of Playtex Gentle Glide Slender. I don’t know what to do!?
Yes, I relax. I have tried every position: sitting on the toilet, squatting, one foot on the tub, and even lying down. I have tried using a mirror.
I can only insert the tampon up until about 1-2 cm of the applicator tube is left sticking out. Is that how it is supposed to be, or in ALL of the way until only the grip part is outside of my body? I’m 85% sure I’m putting the tampon in the right place because after I pull the applicator out, there is some blood on it.
Whenever I push the smaller tube into the applicator tube, it hurts. And I end up pulling the applicator out to soon as I push the other tube into it – my tampon never goes in far enough. I can still see it if I look in a mirror.
After I pull the tampon out, I hurt ‘down there’ for awhile.
I am a virgin, does that matter?

That happens to me sometimes. It’s just the fact that you have to get it in the right spot. Sometimes it’s difficult. It’s nothing that will harm you and being a virgin has nothing to do with it. It’s just getting the tampon in the right position. That’s all. Keep trying!

Yes, it’s going to matter if you’re a virgin, but I was too for the first 10 plus years I had my period. You only insert the tampon in up to the part where you grip. When you push it in, push it in slowly. And when you pull it out for a change, pull it out slowly. But it’s going to hurt if you pull it out when it’s not soiled with blood b/c it’s just dry and it feels like it’s ripping the walls of your vagina out. Perhaps, you’re changing them too often. I mean, it’s not good to keep them in for a long time b/c of Toxic Shock Syndrome, but if you take it out too soon, it will hurt.

If you’re trying so hard and it’s not working out just stick to using pads, you don’t want to get an irritation down there from you doing all that. the way i get my tampon in easiest is by bending over until my head is around my knees, take a deep breath, and as i exhale, my body loosens up and i insert it, straighten up and pull out the applicator. i say you take a break or ask your mother or close female friend to help you or go to your doctor and have them show you clearly (sounds embarrassing, i know)
good luck

being a virgin doesnt matter.
did you try maybe wetting the applicator before putting it in? and also, make sure you’re relaxed…if you think too much into it then your vaginal muscles are tense and it’ll be harder to put it in.
try it again, with one leg on the tub or whatever, wet the application, put it in with just the grip where your fingers are sticking out, then push the tampon in all the way, if it hurts, pull the applicator with the tampon out just a little…also, if you’re comfortable with putting a finger up there…then after you take the applicator out and your tampon’s not in far enough, you could try pushing it in with your finger.
you can also try using a smaller size tampon

same with me. i ended up crying with anger because i couldn’t get it in far enough. my "whole" seems too small, and I did go thorugh a whole box xD but anyway, I know you think your relaxed, but your not. Its hard. But if you can’t get it in far enough, it’s because your muscles are tensed. Try taking a break, and think about something else for a while. then calmly try agian. good luck. =)

it shouldnt matter if your a virgin or not, but as your young you probably too small down stairs and it will take more pushing in… dont be scared it cant get lost, unless your really heavy dont bother with tampons till your older….
also try non aplicator tampons theyre smaller and will b easier for you x
good luck

You may be better off using pads if you have such difficulty with tampons. Besides relaxing and trying different positions ( all of which you have already done) theres not much else I can reccomend. To answer some of your questions, the applicator of the tampon is supposed to be visible after you first insert it, but only the grip part. The reason why it keeps hurting you when you pull it out is because the tampon hasn’t collected enough blood yet to smoothly come out of you. Tampons aren’t for everyone so I would suggest trying a different method that won’t cause you aggravation and pain . best of luck!

1] get a mirror, some vaseline, and a small tampon [ junior size ].
2] go into bathroom and lock door.
3] take of pants and panties
4] squat over mirror on floor
5] put vaseline on end of tampon
6] take a few deep breaths, and exhale s-l-o-w-l-y: try to relax!
7] insert at 45 degree angle, so tampon is aimed towards small of your back
8] push ‘applicator’ tube in, all the way
9] remove applicator
TA – DAA!
PS: no one would explain it to me, so I told all my sisters, cousins, and neighbors how to do it

It definitely doesn’t make a difference that you’re a virgin. Any woman can use a tampon. I see a lot of advice here about relaxing, but you say you’re doing that, so here’s my 2 cents:
Every woman’s vaginal canal/cavity is positioned at a slightly different angle. Yours may tilt toward your back, toward the left or right, or some combination of those. If you try to force a tampon in a direction other than the direction of the cervix, you will feel pain!
Try lying on your back (with your knees bent and raised) and working very slowly. Remember that the tampon itself will be going more than in inch BEYOND the applicator, so it might be worthwhile to experiment with something slightly longer (make sure you’re using something clean and unbreakable–the handle of a toothbrush cleaned with peroxide might work–and use lubrication if you are dry).
Now push gently and slowly (no more than a centimeter at a time) and, even if you think you’re relaxed, push slightly AGAINST the insertion with your internal muscles. As you push, adjust the angle according to the pain. If it feels like the object is hitting something, it probably is! Try angling the object toward your back, and/or left/right, until you don’t feel pain, then continue, bit by bit, using this same technique.
Eventually you will figure out the angle of your vaginal canal, and knowing this will be more helpful than any amount of trying to force the tampon in at an angle that doesn’t work with your body.
Good luck! You will figure this out; it just takes practice and a bit of understanding about the unique nature of your body.
Let us know your thoughts!

You just need practice, I had a problem like this when I first started– I don’t remember exactly what I did but just remember to insert it on a bit of an angle towards your stomach, and be patient. Being a virgin doesn’t matter, it’ll happen eventually! gl! xo
