Anyone know any LEGIT home based businesses?
I’m looking for a legit home based business I can actually do while im at home after having the new baby. My boss thinks I am going to return to work 2 weeks after delivery which is not going to happen. I rather work from home..anyone know any legitimate businesses. I saw some home staffing recruiters but after I couldn’t find them on the better businss bereau I assumed they weren’t real!!

There are several you could join in to. Mary Kay is the one that comes to mind first, but it involves meeting with customers often and making a ton of phone calls and emails. You have to keep in touch with your customers or they’ll find somewhere else to purchase their product.
What you need to ask yourself first is: What do you like to do?
If you had all of the money in the world but were utterly bored, what would you do for free?
For me it’s graphic design and web design. I love turning my artwork into something that could make someone else a lot of money. I’d do it for free, but right now I need money. =)
You’ll need to find something where you can get repeat business from the same customer over and over again. That’s called having a "consumable" item. Home-based businesses like Home & Garden Party or Tupperware are very tough, because you can only have so many paintings and so many storage containers and gadgets. Once you have what you need, it’ll be a long time before you need to replace them or get more.
I went to a "party" recently hosted by a gal who purchased scrap gold and unwanted jewelry. It was a really great experience. I’d been holding on to my dad’s wedding ring (he divorced my mom so it didn’t mean anything). She weighed it, tested it to make sure it really was 14k gold (by putting a drop of some special liquid chemical on it) and I got $116 for something I’d never wear or use anywhere. While this is usually a one-time sale per customer, I made money, the hostess made money (I believe it was 10% of the sales) and the consultant made money. Nothing is more fun than going to a party without having to bring your checkbook and walk away with a check of your own.
So, there are some ideas – but make sure it’s something you like to do or no matter how much money you make, you’ll be miserable.

you could do daycare for someone else with small children.
I used to do it when my kids were little. I babysat 2 little ones from 7:30 to 5:30 and made decent money. they were 3 and 5 and it was kind of fun. We sang songs, and read stories and molded tons of play doh critters. they also played well with the toys I bought for just that and we went for walks, etc.
Yes it is a job and it only worked for me if I treated it like a job as in I did NOT try to get other house work or errands done while they were there. you can’t do that when you work away from home either.
I also signed them up for a story time once a week at our local library. We had fun. I had 2 of my own at the time, who were close to the same age.

Ask your boss if there is any work you can do at home on a part time or hourly basis. You need to sit down and have a talk with him/her about your situation. It is also possible, if you have at least one other wage earner in your family, to slash your expenses to the bone and mitigate the loss of your salary that way. Child care is not cheap, and the time you spend with your baby now will pay off in the future in ways that are more than just material.
